Welcome to Fernyhalgh – A place of Pilgrimage,
Prayer and Peace
This ancient shrine of Ladyewell is to be found down
a meandering country lane a quarter of a mile past
the beautiful parish church of St. Mary’s which is
the starting point for pilgrimages.
The white house, which can be glimpsed through the
trees as pilgrims follow the route of their
ancestors along the final section of Fernyhalgh Lane
to Ladyewell. Ladyewell House is set in its own
picturesque grounds containing the Well itself, the
Stella Maris (covered prayer chapel) and the larger
English Martyrs Chapel.
Ladyewell House contains a small chapel and the
reliquary (containing the relics of English Martyrs
and the famous Burgess Altar). There is also a piety
shop, bookshop and facilities for tea and coffee.
There is disabled access to the ground floor
facilities.
